Alison Smith
Alison Smith is a fully qualified textile and fashion teacher. She founded and has taught at The School of Sewing for over 20 years and is regarded as the premier teacher of the craft in the UK. She has taught at Liberty in London and Janome Manchester and in 2013 she received an MBE for her services to sewing and corsetry. Her bestselling title THE SEWING BOOK (DK) has sold over 300,000 copies and has been translated into 11 languages. Alison appeared on TV’s Ladette to Lady and filmed a series of craft/sewing classes with Granada Sky in the 1990’s called Craft Time, working with presenter Claudia Winkleman. Alison has always written for magazines on a monthly basis, including Sewing World, Sew Hip, Sew, and currently writes for Love Sewing. Often referred to as the Mary Berry of sewing, She is known for her expertise in tailoring and corsetry and in 2015 she launched her own range of patterns. Her next book is under development.
