Dr Lee Watson
Dr Lee Watson is a yoga advocate, academic and co-author of YOGA SAVED MY LIFE. He is the founder of Fierce Calm.
After spending a large part of his professional life as an academic,
consultant and in print and broadcast media, Lee found his way onto a
yoga mat several years ago after using exercise as way to combat the kinds
of mental health issues that are all too common today. With Cultural
Studies PhD, his area of expertise is based upon narratives of identity - the
stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. Initially sceptical, the more time
he spent amongst the yoga community, the more he became aware of the
incredible stories of transformation and recovery that stem from this ancient practice and its incredible capacity for healing. His instincts as an academic and journalist, combined with a burning desire to give something back led him to want to create a safe space for individuals to come together to explore ideas about how yoga has helped them. He set up the Fierce Calm Instagram account as a space where individuals from all over the world shared storied of how yoga had saved their lives. Within 3 weeks he had amassed 2000 followers and now has around 25k. Fierce Calm is now a rapidly expanding network of activists and ambassadors committed to raising awareness and funding to support their registered charity partners. Fierce Calm attend and support events across the world. OurMala is one of the charities they work regularly with - it provides yoga classes to the most vulnerable in society in settings including refugee centres and the NHS. It has been awarded Centre of Excellence status by the UK’s national governing body of yoga.
