Biography

Jo Usmar is an author, ghostwriter, scriptwriter and journalist. She has authored and co-authored eight titles in the bestselling This Book Will Make You... mental-health series, including THIS BOOK WILL MAKE YOU CALM and THIS BOOK WILL MAKE YOU FEARLESS. The books, based on a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) framework, are sold all over the world and have been translated into a dozen languages. In 2020, FRIENDS FOR LIFE was published by Quercus, distilling wisdom about friendship from the iconic TV show Friends.

When not authoring her own books, Jo is an editor, ghostwriter and journalist. She recently edited Ben West's debut, This Book Could Save Your Life: Breaking the Silence Around the Mental Health Emergency, and ghosted both of Gemma Atkinson's bestselling health and fitness books: The Ultimate Body Plan and The Ultimate Body Plan for New Mums.

Jo has over 15 years’ experience as a journalist writing for titles such as Stylist, Women's Health, Men’s Health and Cosmopolitan. Her career has taken in everything from interviewing Joan Collins, One Direction and Heston Blumenthal (sadly not all at the same time), to piranha fishing in the Amazon and getting hypnotised to overcome arachnophobia. She was also Cosmopolitan's resident relationship columnist for 18 months.

Jo co-created the award-winning wellness podcast Boots presents Taboo Talk and scripts each episode, working closely with host Vogue Williams, guests and experts.

She has appeared on TV and radio numerous times speaking about her work and conducts talks at universities and schools on all manner of topics.
