…‘Supportive’

…‘Astute’

…‘Trusted’

When we launched Graham Maw Christie in 2005, we set out to focus on non-fiction and wanted to build a collaborative, creative, market-driven agency. We believe that authors can change the world through books, and that a successful career as a writer starts with an excellent book proposal. Authors need someone in their corner - not only to find the right publisher but to navigate and prepare for each stage of the publishing process, from pitch to publication, from the lonely days of honing the manuscript to building a writing career from the first book onwards.

We are known as an agency that invests in authors from under-represented backgrounds and from communities poorly served by publishing.

We look forward to reading your submission.

We are members of the Association of Authors' Agents and abide by their Code of Practice.

Jane Graham Maw
FOUNDER & AGENT

  • Jane Graham Maw

Jane was shortlisted for the British Book Awards: Literary Agent of the Year in 2023. She has over 25 years' experience in the publishing industry and has worked in rights, contracts and marketing, as well in commissioning and as a publishing director. She has also ghostwritten books for celebrities and experts. Jane is often asked to give talks or workshops to writers' groups or at literary festivals on how to get a non-fiction book deal and she has worked as a mentor for The Arkbound Foundation, a charity that aims to improve diversity within publishing, and she is a trustee of Spark Sisterhood, a charity for teenage girls leaving the care system.  Jane has an English Degree (Cambridge) and also holds a postgraduate certificate from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). She is driven by a desire to champion quality writing with a clear message.

For general non-fiction she seeks out activists, psychologists, creatives, change-makers and thought-leaders. On the narrative/memoir side she is looking for beautifully crafted books that take the reader somewhere new – a time, a place, or an experience, while managing to be universally appealing. The topics her authors write about are often aligned to the changes readers are seeking post-pandemic.

Last year Jane inked over 30 new deals and many of her books rose to the top of their categories on Amazon; several were featured in the top 50 non-fiction charts, and a few hit the Sunday Times bestseller lists. For Jane, however, success is not just a numbers game; it is ensuring that authors feel supremely supported, and that the books they work on together make a special mark in the world.

Please see our submissions page if you’d like to send Jane your work.

Jennifer Christie
FOUNDER & AGENT

  • I have worked as a literary agent for 20 years, launching international and Sunday Times bestsellers including Raynor Winn, Helen Villiers, Katie McKenna, Michael Foley, and Graeme Tomlinson. I represent authors across a wide range of non-fiction, from popular science, philosophy and humour to business and memoir, working closely with authors according to their needs, developing ideas, building promotional strategies, structuring content and editing text.

I am keen to see memoirs with a distinctive voice and timely themes; general non-fiction that blends personal narratives with broader societal issues; experts in smart thinking, psychology and self-improvement who help us make more informed decisions and act with greater self awareness; academics who bring history, science and economics to life and make them relevant now; and well-paced, robustly argued big thinking.

Before becoming an agent, I worked in marketing, advertising, journalism, ghostwriting and as a counsellor for ChildLine.

Amy O'Shea
JUNIOR AGENT

  • Amy joined the agency in early 2023 and assists Jane and Jen with social media, admin, royalties and submissions, alongside working on her own projects.

Amy graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in Linguistics and English Language in 2021. She is interested in a wide variety of non-fiction from prescriptions for thinking and living better by experts in their field, to humour, history, true crime, and narrative non-fiction/memoir whereby the author immerses the reader in a lived experience. In an ever-changing landscape, she is looking for books that bring fresh, practical and accessible solutions to their audience - anything that can teach us more about who we are and the world we share.

Rebecca Winfield
FOREIGN RIGHTS

  • Translation rights are handled by Rebecca Winfield, who was the Rights and Contracts Director at Transworld Publishers before becoming a literary agent in 2003. She now specialises in foreign rights management at David Luxton Associates. Rebecca has first-rate contacts with foreign publishers throughout the world and in addition to attending the Frankfurt and London book fairs she also makes regular trips abroad to meet up with publishers in their offices.

Meg Davis
TV / FILM RIGHTS

  • Meg’s work for her clients is informed by her involvement behind the scenes, previously as co-Chair of the Dramatists’ section of the PMA, on the management board of Public Lending Right, and as the external examiner for the MA in Scriptwriting course at Sheffield Hallam. She is currently Chair of the Writers’ Organisations Advisory Group, and serving a third term on the committee of the Association of Authors’ Agents. She represents our titles which have particular potential for television (factual or drama), dramatic or film adaptation.

Rupert Ross-Macdonald
LEGAL ADVISOR

  • Rupert has more than thirty years’ experience in the field of intellectual property, the area in which he has specialised exclusively since qualifying as a solicitor. His work has included advising on agreements, licensing, conflicts and the enforcement of copyright and trade marks in a large number of countries.

He was a founding partner of Rouse Legal in the 1990s, before going on to become CEO of Rouse International Ltd, now one of the world’s leading intellectual property professional services businesses with offices in 12 countries. He remains an Executive Director of Rouse.

We are proud to have launched the careers of several of the UK’s bestselling non-fiction authors of recent years.

We have strong relationships with publishers across the book trade, from the big conglomerates to smaller independents.
