Biography

Ruth Allen PhD is a geotherapist, a qualified outdoor counsellor/psychotherapist, person-centred therapeutic coach, and an experienced trainer and facilitator. She specialises in outdoor practice, nature connection and the power of relationship. She is interested in how we make meaning of our lives, the stories we tell, and the things we’ve been through.

Alongside her therapy work, Ruth is a keen adventurer. In autumn 2018, she ran solo and unsupported across the Bosnian Dinaric Alps, an assumed world first. Day-to-day she enjoys the small adventures and can be found kayaking, running and biking in the UK uplands. She enjoys inspiring people through new adventures that combine her love for place, people, and purpose.

In 2019, Ruth took on the supervisory role of CIC Director for ‘Rooted for Girls’ a unique woodland-based psycho-educational programme for teenage girls in the North of England.

A fascinating exploration of the literal ground of our being, and a wise and profound reflection on what rock can teach us about what it is to be human.’ - Sharon Blackie, author of If Women Rose Rooted.

A convincing, considered read for those who enjoy a deeper exploration of our place within an unromanticised natural world: What if 'know your place' was a call to action and not a reprimand?' Irish Times
