Biography
Tim Lewis is a filmmaker, storyteller and historian whose work centres on people and place; and explores how experience binds memory to landscape.
For twenty years he has worked across film and television producing documentaries and commercial work for organisations including the BBC, Paramount, National Geographic, Netflix, Sky, Arte, United Nations, Amnesty International, and the Ford Foundation.
Much of Tim’s work has focused on communicating the global stories of indigenous and traditional peoples, ranging from following shamans in isolated island communities in the Indian Ocean to documenting civil rights campaigners in the Congo. He co-founded the global If Not Us Then Who campaign, an international programme of film mentorship among indigenous youth, curating a series of over twenty award-winning films, exhibitions, and events that have reached millions worldwide.
Alongside his work in film, Tim is a qualified London guide and historian, focusing on historical storytelling through his passion for film and writing. Living and working in London, he explores the city on foot, drawn to its hidden corners, overlooked histories, and the extraordinary stories and personalities to be discovered in its streets. His weekly videos about London’s history have built a strong digital presence with over 90,000 followers on Instagram and a growing audience on YouTube, where his short films bring the city’s hidden histories to life for a global audience.
Through guided walks and storytelling, he shares a London shaped by curiosity, close observation, and a lifelong love of wandering.
